Is anyone using this ballhead? I am interested to get one. I would use it for my groundpod with a 600 or 300 mm lens

I have one and use it with my large format gear and a Canon 5D and a 70-200 4.0. I think it is a great ballhead. I used to have the Ultimate and I find the V2 is a much more rigid ballhead than the Ultimate. The Ultimate has a great deal of flex in it (very noticeable when a 4x5 is racked out to 390mm). Also, the new V2 design is far better, since you no longer have to do the pan/swing around manuever to get the camera into certain positions (you know what I mean if you have ever used one).

I can't address how it will work for the equipment you want to use it with, but I like the ballhead.

I'll second what Harley says. I have an Acratech V2 and I love it. I use it with 4x5 and digital. My heaviest lens is a Nikon 80-400 VR.

Although Acratech rates the V2 for over 25 pounds, I'm not sure I would recommend it for your use. Have you looked at Acratech's soon-to-be-released Long Lens Head? It might be just what you're looking for.

Hi Rene,

I use a Kirk BH-1 Ball Head which already has an Acra plate attached. I've used it with the 600mm no problem! I have the snap collar with it to lock everything up while in transport!

My only niggle with it (the same goes for most ball-heads I'm afraid) is the way that it creeps slighty as you tighten it up - I've got used to it now and don't suffer as much as I did when I first had it!

It is very light weighting in at 30oz. / 850g, Hope this helps!
