monitor sharpness

Is there an objective way to assess monitor sharpness?

Things just don't look as sharp on my monitor at home as they do at work.

I'm going to check, but I don't think the resolution in terms of pixels per inch is any different between the two.

Pete - LCD or CRT? What are your display settings on each one? My first thought is that you've got the number of colors or the resolution set funny on one of them.

1. 17" LCD highest color (32 bit), 1280x1024

2. 19" CRT highest color (32 bit), 1280x1024

perhaps that is the only "problem" the pixels per inch is lower on the 19" CRT.

Generally speaking, CRTs will not look (subjectively) as sharp as an LCD simply because of differences in technology (a beam vs. an actual pixel). Also, since 19" CRTs had not been commonly manufactured in a long time, I suspect age may have something to do with it too.
