Hey All, I am an interloper from the Central States group and seeking information. I will be in the Baggs, Wyoming area for a couple of days sometime in June. Does anyone know of any sites of interest (photography wise) in the Baggs area ? I appreciate any and all input.

Hey Merle, I have not been to Baggs but been near there and Ron is right not much there but the wind... probably why there is not much there

However you are only about 3-1/2 drive to the west entrance of Rocky Mtn NP. Definitely worth the drive if you have time!

If you have some time to get out of town, I suggest taking Highway 70 east from Baggs to Highway 130 and do the Scenic Byway over the Snowy Range. Check out Lake Marie, there is an outlet at the end of the lake that I have seen some nice photos of.

You could always head south into Colorado toward Steamboat and check out the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness too as another suggestion.

I don't know much about the area, but you're not far from the Red Desert. http://www.reddesert.org might give you some ideas. Adobe Town in particular looks like it has possibilities; good dune system and lots of Pronghorn, too.

Rock Springs is a bit of trip, but you can try the Pilot Butte Wild Horse Loop just north of there...

I'll second the suggestion of the Snowy Range Pass area. One of my favorite spots. Google Maps shows it as 95 miles, and about 3.5 hours, but that seems a little long to me. Anyway, plenty to do up there. Here are some shots from a great trip up there a couple years ago: Snowy Range, July 06

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the input - I appreciate it. The only reason we are going to Baggs is to visit the ranch my wife's relatives lived on and to visit the museum that has some photos of her family. We will be driving in from the east - so the Snowy Range Pass area sounds like a great spot to see sometime on the trip.

If I capture anything worthwhile, I let you know. Thanks again.

Baggs isn't that bad. Not as much wind as there is in the rest of the state of Wyoming.

You could drive 30 miles south to Craig and get some cool picks of the yampa river valley. It should be great in spring. On your way there going down I 80 you can stop in Rawlins. Its a neat town with a lot of historic buildings resting next to a cliff.

If you head straight east of baggs for about 20 minutes you can start to hit Medicine Bow National Forest but I don't think there is going to be too many epic shots from there.

You are also 80 miles from Dinosaur National Monument. Head down to Craig and take 40 West. However if you are going to drive around Craig you might as well go East to steamboat. Its 35 miles east of Craig and beautiful.

Thats about all I know of and I used to live in Craig!

If you're interested in wildlife, the Arapahoe NWR is just south of the WY-CO border near Walden, CO
It can be good for birds, prairie dogs, and moose.
