Hi Andy,

Lovely singing pose! The catch-light in his eye is great. Nice feather detail too! I like the perch as it isn't distracting and helps to balance the composition!

Great shot of a difficult to capture (well for me anyhow!!) bird. Love the catchlight and the feather detail - and to get him in full song is a bonus.

Nice andrew, how are you finding the new firmware?

I still try to get this shot every time I go out. Very well caught. tell me how such a tiny bird can get such volume. It always amazes me.

Thanks for the nice comments guys , always appreciated :toast:

Paul & Dave , personally I don't think the new firmware has made a great deal of difference , I spent yesterday morning photographing Peregrines hunting at Bempton and didn't come away with a single sharp shot , the same applied to the Guillimots and Razorbills , I was constantly switching between the "ring of fire" and the centre point with assists , I tried every combination of Servo tracking sensitivity ( Slow thru Fast ) but that made no difference , my particular body just won't lock on to a fast moving low contrast ( dark ) target , give me a big white Gannet and the focus nails it every time.

I tried the same today with Dippers , positioned myself down river of the nest and tracked the bird as it flew straight towards me from about 200ft , coditions were perfect , excellent light and guess what , the AF didn't lock on once , after an hour I gave up.

With this being my first pro body it could just be that i've not set it up correctly , or maybe i'm expecting too much from the camera , but I know that with my old and battered 20D i'd have come away with at least one or two keepers.

I'd be very interested to know what settings you guys would use to photograph the above birds in the same scenarios.

Cheers
