Columbia Layers
Mount Hood, lenticular clouds, as seen from the Columbia Hills of Washington catching a little diffused sunset light through thin overcast. Wildflowers were out of the question here, with the 40mph winds!

Thanks for commenting.

Nice comp, that arching tree really makes this whole scene come together for me!

now point me in the direction of the NG you were published in........and congrats on that!

I'll say! the light and trees really make this scene sing... excellent, Marc!!

Darren, thanks. I've been fortunate to have an ongoing relationship with National Geographic for about a year now. Although the magazine only publishes work from staff photographers, they have accepted outside work by invitation from others not part of the staff, like myself, for their other projects. My images will appear in their premier wall calendar publication in 2009, the engagement calendar and their National Parks calendar. My image 'Winter's Fury' was also published on their website in addition to a discussion about the image's making. In addition, I will be contributing to an upcoming NG Adventure issue. My new website that I will unviel hopefully in late June will have additional updates and information.

This is stunning, Marc! We were poking around there last Monday, but conditions were not good. You captured a gorgeous image; the clouds are so dramatic and wonderfully draping Hood...and love the 3 oaks. Awesome!

Oh yea, I love this one a lot - the bottom 1/2 is a tad dark but that is probably accurate to the scene and the conditions out there. I was disappointed with the flowers in that area....

Very cool, love the layering and the lenticular. It was not visible where I was at sunset, but I still managed to get some nice images. I'll post my fav over on Man and Nature Tomorrow.

Good lord, Marc, you can make lemonade from anything. I love the layering here, and anything with Mt. Hood in it

And congrats on the NG deal. That is an envious honor :toast:

Great sky and nice muted colors. I wouldn't mind seeing the FG a bit brighter and, perhaps it's an illusion, but there appears to be a slight CCW tilt....I say that because the cloud bisecting Hood appears to be running downhill.

Very nice Marc. One of these days I'm going to have to get a longer lens. I was fooling around out there on the 8th, and hear you on the wind! I tried a few shots, hunkering behind a slope and waiting for breaks in the gusts. If any are worth fooling with I may post one.

I like this one. It has a minimal composition that is always appealing to me. Very natural colors and processing, and still maintains a little bit of moodiness too.

I have this same exact comp, Marc, same trees and everything. Mine has a nice gradient from bottom to top, the sky is pretty plain but a nice early evening color.
I like this one but trying to include that top Lenticular seems like a stretch. If you cropped that out I think the comp holds together better.
