I want to rent a Nikon 70-200 F2.8 VR lense to see if it is as good as I read before I try to find one to buy. Does anyone recommend any rental company over another for a short test period of a week ? Thanks in advance.

Our only experience with lens rentals has been with Glazers in Seattle, and it was all positive. When we rented a lighting setup in Denver the place also had lenses for rent, but I'm sorry I can't remember their name. Classy outfit, too. As I recall there's a place in Salt Lake City that rents, so it's apparent they're scattered around the country.

Somebody recently told me about LensRentals.com. I have no dealings with them, I've just heard positive things.

Andrew,

I am returning a lens & other equip. today that I rented from "Borrow Lens.com".

Here's the link; http://www.borrowlenses.com/ They are pretty reasonable in price, (a bit cheaper than Calumet Photographic, another place you could try) They seem to have a pretty decent selection of lenses with several copies of each available for many of them.

They offer insurance (not real cheap, & be sure to read the details first) & prepaid return shipping to the renter, and in my case. when there was a problem with the tripod I wanted to rent having been returned damaged by the previous renter, they contacted me right away & asked if a substitution would work. When I told them the model they had in mind wouldn't work, They bought a brand new Gitzo 1410 & sent it to me. So I was impresssed by their customer service. (I'm sure the other guy got the bill of course)

Good luck,

Craig

Andrew, I've used Calumet and while not cheap, their equipment is all clean and operable. The employees I've dealt with were also very helpful. Hope I've been. Good Luck, BP
