Gorton Creek falls
Decided to follow everyone's lead and head into the gorge. Here at Gorton Creek the moss wasn't as impressive as I was hoping for after seeing all of the other posts. It was a bit dry and not fully green. Having said that, I think this is my new favorite waterfall as there are so many interesting possibilities.
Also, for those interested in the Gorton Creek area, the ferns are still a little bit immature. Might be better in a week or so.

Looking for some feedback on compositional issues here. Is the foreground boulder too prominent? I turned the contrast up pretty high to cut through some haze, too much?
Any other ideas for improvement are appreciated.
Canon 350D, F22 .30 sec at 10mm. Blend of three exposures from single RAW file.

Hey Larry - good to see your post! Looks like the water level is still high up there! I don't think the boulder bothers me that much at all - but it might be more interesting to see with the tripod set a little higher to get some of the splash pool (if possible...)

Great comp Larry, I like it. My first reaction was, ooo, the contrast is kinda high.

I am surprised you got to the falls with as much water is in there.....I know you had to be soaked by the time you got out!

cool shot! lots of contrast......try black and white! :toast:

I like the left third position of the falls vs the repeated vertical in the fir on the right third. Nice composition. I'd like to see a little more detail in the foreground. Well done.

I like the comp, Larry -- and the offset between the upper and main tiers of the falls. Lots of good depth, same comment on pulling back the contrast a bit.

Thanks all for the good ideas. I will definitely try it in B+W and with less contrast.
I'm interested in getting back in there soon, perhaps in the next couple of weeks. I'd like to have a rope next time in order to access some different vantage points.

I like the composition here, but wouldn't mind more of a focus on that bottom right rock. Seems like the contrast of the smooth red stone vs. the rest of the moss would be a great anchor with the right lighting. It definitely is too contrasty for my taste. I do like the exposure otherwise! I'll have to look this location up and visit for a nice hike.
