Those eyes REALLY stand out Sam, and grab the attention!!
Not sure about the shallow dof, mainly on the nose area, but maybe an unavoidable consequence of the situation {or maybe deliberate}. Maybe others with more experience with this type of subject will have more useful views than me though.
Hello Sam, I completely agree with Alan. The eyes make it but that nose is close to breaking it for me. I appreciate that at that magnification you are going to have minimal depth of field but when it is so distinct at the forefront of the image it is very distracting. Other than that it is a great viewpoint and framing.

Great eye contact and they are certainly magnetic, but that oof nose just takes the edge off for me too. Great idea though Sam and worth another try if you ever get the chance. I like the Oof coils in the bg. Eric
Le Brenne is a great place, I nearly bought a house there once-The shallow DOF makes the eyes pop but i would have liked a bit more to get the nose in focus
The eye's really do catch your attention, for me a wider DOF as the others have said or even having the head forward of the rest of the body and that way you could of just had the eye's with out the in focus part of the body distracting. I like it though and I keep coming back.

Awesome eye contact! I agree that stopping down would have helped a lot!

I agree with most of you that a bit wider DOF would probably be better, but the circumstances didn't allow that
I've got some more snake pictures so I will post some later!
