Forest Ferns
What does everyone think of this one? To busy?

Thanks for any thoughts.

The main detractor for me is the dead stump in the center, only because I don't feel it is at the center of what this image is about. I like the ferns and might try to get closer to accentuate them more. I also see a possible vertical comp with the two on the right.

Hmmm I know what John is talking about but I like the stump being a contrast to the spring growth. The scene reminds me of JG work. Is that from a special filter  ?

I wouldn't mind the stump being included but I'm not crazy about it being in the center. Interesting ferns... what kind are they?

Perhaps I didn't phrase it right, but I meant more of what Alice said.

I think that is a wonderful site to take some more images. Maybe a little more to the left and shooting back to the right to get that stump a little off center. Also, I would think this would be a candidate for a macro shot with a fern or two right up next to the lens and also capturing the forest and stump if possible. I like the saturated colors. Also, maybe a single fern with the entire fern in focus and rest out of focus.

What if you got down lower, like just about laying on the ground, and got closer to one of the ferns, and used it as a lattice or a screen for a photo of another fern behind it?

I didn't think of this until I finished wrriting my thought, but if you could somehow get a third fern in it, you certainly would have a good title - Fern, Fern, Fern.

Alice, they are Cinnamon Ferns (Osmunda cinnamomea). Thomas, I like it as it is. To offer a little different suggestion you could create a vertical by cropping the left hand side to just right of the stump and using the right hand side with the two nice ferns as a vertical.

Hey Tom,

If this site is short journey from home....you might consider going back right after a rain with maybe some cloud cover. This would really accentuate the new greens and give you greater contrast of the deep green ferns w/cinnamon centers.....just thinking out loud.

Wonderful photo.....H :toast:

Thanks guys.. lots of great suggestions! When I get back home (working on the road) I have many of your suggestions in various different shots that I'll process and post. I can always make a return trip as well.. bout a 1hr from the house.
Thanks again everyone!! :wavey:

I agree with what Harold said. Eliminate some of the harsh lighting and simplify the image with some rain and fog.
