Another first, x 2
I visited Cwmfrwdd Dinas on Sunday and saw Pied Flycatchers for the very first time. I didn't think I had anything of worth until I got home and was pleasantly surprised that despite a fairly large crop I have come away with a couple of reasonable images. Some loss of detail in some whites and I would like the birds head to have been a touch more to the right to see the beak more clearly but otherwise I'm fairly happy for my first attempt.
Canon EOS 30D
Sigma 500
exp 1/350 @f4.5 iso 320
tripod
bag hide (used for first time)

Since joining this forum in February I have experienced a new lease of life photographically speaking. I have probably been using my camera more these last few months than I did in the whole of last year. I believe the standard of images is so high that it pushes me to try harder all the time and the satisfaction that comes with favourable comments is very welcome. Also welcome is the constructive criticism and helpul comments on things I have done wrong (or could do differently) which have all enabled me to expand my horizons, so thanks to all.

Well I would be happy to have this as a starter image. You have already mentioned the minor nits - but its a good starter to improve on I think.

Agree 100% with your comments about this forum - stunning work that makes me strive to do better - but occasionally depresses the hell out of me each time the bar is raised just when I though i might be getting somewhere!! I'd also like to echo your comments about the C&C - always helpful and never (as yet) condescending.

And this was the other that I quite liked. Same bird, same perch and same details.

Second shot for me. Pity about the ring.

I prefer the second one now I've seen it.

I prefer the first, as it's a far more interesting pose and works better as a picture.
