Good evening. Does anyone have an idea of the maximum, if any, amount of shutter activations that I can hope to get out of my Cannon XTi.

Thank you,

Rich Hahn

Hi Richard,

I've just been through this with my Nikon's! The Canon XTi is 50,000 shutter activations, but that doesn't mean it won't do 150,000 or 500,000!

Paul is correct. The shutter actuation expectation is mean time to failure.

Canon may rate it at 50K, but it might die at 10K or 500K.

I'm at 13K clicks with my XT right now. Its going strong after 3 years of not use. One of the AF points won't light, the texture paint is worn off the grip and the corners look quite worn, but the camera is still functioning well.

How do you know how many activations there have been? Is there an internal counter that you can access or is your 13K value just a guesstimate? This is a new one to me, I have read all kinds of reviews of these cameras and no one ever mentioned a limit on the number of actuations--is this a dirty little secret? Also, is this a mechanical issue or are we talking about the mean time to an electronic failure or is it a limitation of the sensor itself?

Bump--no responses?
