At the waters edges just gone 5.30am today looking for emerger Red Damzels - couldn't see a single one.

Went home for breakfast and to do some jobs about 7.30 - very fed up - went back at 11am - damn damzels everywhere

That'll teach me!

Obviously these two have been out a day or two though

Very breezy up here right from first light so everything is burying itself in reeds and flag iris so the BG can't be helped.

It's just nice to see them about at last

I don't know why you worry so. The background isn't intrusive or distracting. In fact it adds to the pictuer for me. Another beauty Andy.

Indeed a beauty. First thing that I noticed was the beautiful Reds. Good capture Andy. Hope to see some more. Just take your breakfast with you next time

I find totaly plain backgrounds rather boring! This is much more in context. Nice one.

Andy

Such detail and colour. I don't follow the argument over the background this is the habitat and as such is rightly illustrated. Or am I missing the point?

I agree with Eric it enhances the subject.

So maybe some of our subjects do like lie-ins as much as we do

Love the detail and the corner to corner composition

an excellent shot Andy, it's never easy to get them both in focus when they're doing, er, this.

In my experience it tends to take an hour or two in the morning for the water to warm up a bit before they start emerging.
