Speckled wood
I came across this the other day scouting for water voles (nope didn't find any Adrian :frown: ) in a local wildlife reserve.

Olympus E-3, 50-200 plus 1.4 tc at 283mm (=560mm FOV), 1/320s at F5.6, iso 200, centre weighted metering, EV 0, monopod, IS mode 1,jpeg file straight from camera & full frame.

I know the depth of field is too shallow,

Hi Mike

You have already ID my small nit - very nice!

A bit more DOF would have been nice but still a nice image.

Mike,

Pity about not finding any water voles :frown:

Apart from the nit you picked up on a very nice image - looks like I'll have to visit there again

Butterflies are not as easy as might be expected and it is always easier to get everything within the DoF if you shoot them from the side or the top, but some of the most interesting shots are taken using angles like these. Nice one mike.

I think Eric's hit the nail on the head Mike,

I really like the soft rendering of the surrounding foliage, and rather than more dof, a slightly different shooting angle may have done the trick, and retained the soft bg maybe.

Just the thoughts of someone who hasn't tried this stuff though

Agree with nit mentioned but still pleasing on the eye

I too like the low angle, just feels a bit central for me - would it work better with cropping a bit of the right and bottom?
