Hello everyone,

I need some advise on lenses. I've got a Nikon D40 that came with an 18-55mm. I'm looking from something with a longer zoom. I was thinking a 55-200mm or a 70-300mm. I'm going back and forth between Nikon and Sigma.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Payat

How about a 1200-1700mm nikon? Guarantteed to get you noticed, sigma doesn't make them so that difficult choice will be resolved, so there you go.

Tim now that's a lens - now where can I get one of those!

Hi Payat,

I use the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR which is great, but it does cost a pretty penny! I did have an older 70-300mm (the one without the tripod collar. I did like it except for the lack of collar! - I shoot 99% of my images on a tripod!). I hear that the new one has one now so I'd go for that lens if I was you!

Myson has a 500mm Tamron and he's done some great stuff with it. Its very light too.
I,ve got a Sigma 500 and that's heavy.
Cheers

apparently the new 70-300 with VR is quite impressive.
