Copying Jesse
Here’s another Rowena Sunburst. This is a stitched HDR that I took from Rowena Crest. The plateau is from one setting, and the gorge/hills/sky are a TuFuse blend of three bracketed shots.

This was the first time I’ve taken shots for stitching at 12mm. It changes things a bit because portions of the photo that are far from the horizon really warp when projected to a flat surface, and so I had to crop out some of the cool stuff I had placed in the composition.

There was a bit of wind making things more difficult than I would have hoped, and I’ve spent way more time experimenting with processing this than I should have; I’m still not real happy with it. Jesse’s post was a close enough idea that I decided to post it for comparison’s sake anyway.

They were filming a commercial there the day I took this. When I arrived an hour or so before dawn, there were two motor homes blazing with light and people working away at a breakfast buffet. By the time I left, there was barely room to park. It was amazing how many people and how much equipment was involved.

I drove by that day also. They were filming a BMW commercial down on the curves. The next day I saw the whole crew out by Ainsworth Park and the waterfalls.

Cool shot, I'd like to see a bigger version.

I do hope that the State of Oregon nicks the car companies for a healthy contribution to the Historic Highway preservation fund - I've seen several filmed in the west end of the Gorge, and especially at the turn around Crown Point. The shoots often consume a full day, with unsuspecting tourists (and photographers) caught up in the traffic.

John, I really like this image - great work on visualizing it as a stitched pano! I think you've been looking at it for too long, if you're really unhappy with it. It's very original, captures the feel of Rowena very nicely, and the sunburst works. I'm not sure I understand where the stitch line is - is this a very wide shot with top and bottom stitched for exposure, or a panoramic stitch? If it's the latter, your sky blend (not to mention the sunburst) is unbelievable! Good work! :toast:

Hey, John, I agree with Tom. You've been working on it too long. What a stunning shot! That you combined images is impressive; I can't tell. Just a beautiful creation and great work.
