Always nice to see these turn up.- skittish as they are.
Great to be able to do birds at water in decent light for a change comared to the 5o0th sec jobs at the woodland pool hide.I think the new setup has great potential

Hope you like.

Great light and I love the pose - I think I would remove the twigs from the pool especially the FG ones but that's a personal thing. I still like the image!
Agree the twigs frame the bird John, although maybe good fortune the bird wasn't partly obscured by one or two of them. No dought you will tweak it to you satisfaction!
On the other hand, i quite like the natural 'look' , and although a deliberate clean setting can showcase the bird, i sometimes feel that it doesn't convey the wildlife photography 'feel' quite as much..............the problem is where to set the balance
Hi John,
Lovely shot of the bird especially the way you have caught that iridescence on the neck. Plenty of them round here, but much ignored.
The pool set-up is certainly not as attractive as your woodland one, but when did nature ever set out to be attractive and convenient for photographers? Dead wood and stones are probably the most appropriatye 'props' for a field margin pool - perhaps just a re-arrangement? Or maybe some old, rusty, farm machinery? Got an old plough handy? Eric

Beautiful capture!
Glad someone likes it.
I liked the way the twigs sort of framed the shot.

I'll have to have a rethink on this as I need something for the little fellas to perch on !
