Nicole and I had an awesome first day shooting on my vacation this week. We made two hikes early in the morning and had awesome conditions - far better than I hoped for on a forecasted clear day. We ended the morning by stopping off at the Tanner Creek trailhead and I am glad I took the risk of going up in broad daylight - capturing this awesome lighting on the trees.... Can't wait for day 2 tomorrow!

Excellent, Ned. I tell people to shoot light like this in the gorge all the time. It makes such a huge improvement if you can catch that transient light on a partly cloudy or high overcast day, filtering down into the scene as it does here. I think this must be the best I've seen from this perspective.
Oh, I'll also say that one other thing I think distiguishes this shot is the raging water. That thing is going so strong and creates so much spray at the bottom that it really diminishes the impact of that big rock that often unfavorably blocks the bottom of the falls.
I think this is great...well, actually the version it should be. I'd process it more to reflect how it was, rather than deal with what it looks like now...almost not worth posting an image with a disclaimer like that. There must be something off with your PS save for web settings. Some of your latest stream images have been off...which is unusual for you.
I don't know what it was - I saved it like always do - for some reason when I upload, the colors look cooler than what I have here... can't do too much now, (too many tequila shots tonight.. ) - maybe I'll try again to do a repost.. thanks for the comments, all...
I like how the shot "flows" (no pun intended) from top to bottom. The photo starts out delicate and light on top and ends up darkish and powerful at the bottom.
Heyyy, I know this place! The upper tier is amazing right now. And I'm probably heading into the Gorge either Weds day or Fri AM to see if the flowers are opening up more on the trail (they were just starting last week).
If you're looking for a vantage point higher than this, I know of a spot
Awesome, Ned. Love the silvery ribbon of the upper falls and the spray at the plunge pool. Love how the light picked out certain of the trees. Really enjoy this!!
It just wasn't Patron.... Kevin the flowers are blooming really nice as of yesterday... the only thing that puzzled us was a group of State workers along Tanner Creek cutting out swaths of grasses, flowers and plants with chainsaws... seemed rather odd. All along the trail were clumps of those magenta flowers that look so nice, (they are on several of the streams right now), that were thrown to wither in the sun..

I tend to stay away from this kind of light but it seems as though it worked for you....
the rock in the bottom does bother me a little but not much......
and I would prefer the vantage point to be higher up so that you can get that splash pool in there
This one is on my short list to do in the very near future!

Well, I'm completely stumped as to what might be the problem...
