Gropper in the moss
Common Groundhopper (Tetrx undulata)

40D, Sigma 180mm, 1/125 @ f9, -2/3, HTP. Some selective blurring of moss elements.

Not the most exciting shot I know, but would be interested to hear what people think of this one.

I get the feeling i need to be slightly higher Greg, as the front foliage intrudes slightly, although i find that less distracting than the vertical stems. Also think the 'hopper' would benefit from a touch more usm.

Tricky stuff, this macro malarky, and too tricky for me!!

nice one :toast:

Hi Greg,

Beautiful capture! I do agree with Alan r.e. a slightly higher point of view would have helped as the out of focus foreground is a wee bit distracting!

Hi Greg - nice sharp image of the hopper but agree with others about the foreground. I know what its like trying to get well composd shots of small and very flighty subjects though. At least with digital you can take a good record shot like this and then try for the more "aesthetic" angle.

Cheers

Just too much intrusive FG and Bg detail for me Greg in fact I don't really feel any the wiser about what they really look like. I have only tried a few macro shots myself and compared to them this is a very good shot, but at this scale, the tiniest distraction becomes huge. Macro is the hardest discipline of all I reckon.
