Prairie Smoke
While I've seen photos of this prairie flower, I'd not seen it for myself 'til Tuesday, and was pleasantly surprised. The blossoms are still coming into full bloom, but it was nice to see something new...

It's something new for me too, Tim..saw the first buds yesterday at PJ Hoffmaster SP in Muskegon. Good thing they had id signs up for the various plants!

I like your POV here with the buds in the background and new flowers in the foreground.

Sweet shot. These are like a lot of things I didn't know they existed till you guys start posting images of them.

I would love to see these in person - they look very cool. Tim, where are these?

Toni, didn't know they occurred at PJ.....another place I need to get to. I know that there is a spot in the UP where these grow - they started blooming last year around early June....

Hi all,

I was out shooting on Tuesday at a Nature Conservancy property (Hemlock Draw) in Sauk County, Wisconsin, and passed this TNC prairie on the way there. On the way back, I stopped by the prairie, as I wasn't previously aware of it. I grew up on western Iowa and did some of my studies in western Nebraska, and I really enjoy prairies!

CJ...I don't think they grow naturally at PJ, but were planted in front of the Gilette Nature Center along with other flowers. Our gain!

Nicely done; I'm wondering about a bit of additional blurring to the BG here...
