Yeah, it's a bit abstract and there are some interesting elements within, but as a whole it's just not speaking to me. Maybe it's the rock in the middle of the image that's a bit too dominant. I just can't put my finger on it.
Thanks Richard. I really like that old tree and the bit of water, but that rock is what I was concerned about, it is a bit dominant.
Maybe I'm trying to get one to work that's just not going to
I love the old tree and the watermovement is beautiful., but the cement pad takes away from everything else. If you could rmove it and add some smaller stones or rocks,in its place, it would be stunning.

Thank you Jackie, but that's just a rock that was in the creek not a cement pad
The light is very dramatic.
There is too much competition between the rock and the water. I would like to see much more water or almost none at all, but then it would be a bit too static, IMHO.
My first opinion is a lot like Durwood's. The water up top is where my eyes keep going and there is not enough of it, but then I'm thinking that is not what you wanted to emphasize. I like a crop around the top of the rock it allows me to look at the tree root without distraction and leaves just enough water to let me know that it is on a stream bank.
Didn't mean to offend you about calling the rock a cement pad. This one is great and interesting, but I miss the beautiful water. I think the water was so beautiful in the other one, that the rock was a distraction. Great detail and the water spilling over the (rock) catches my attention, and to me makes the photograph. I love the way you cropped it. Great work.
I like the original composition. You might try building a mask for the dry part of the rock and making that part darker. I think it will only take just a little darkening to make it work better; it doesn't want to be as dark as the wet part of the rock.
What this would do is bring out the texture of that part of the rock while at the same time removing some of the "visual pressure" that the highlights from the rock create. It will have the effect when looking at it of relaxing your squint -- it'll give you an "ahh" type reaction. I think. You won't really know if it'll do what you want until you try it and look at it.

Thanks everyone!! Nice crop as well Leann, good idea you and Bruce had!
Jackie you didn't offend me at all after you said that I can see how it looks like concrete!
I'll give every bodies thoughts a try and see what I come up with!
This is a great group we've got around here!!

Here's the same tree, a different scene.
I love this old tree
I like the first shot with some of the same comments that others have. This second shot however is killer. Very nice. Your shots of this type really inspire me. Great work!
The wide view is great, a classic "Thomas Biggs" photo.
On the first one I hope you don't mind me cropping and post what I had in mind. I like Leann's crop but think I just a little more water.

Excellent light, however!
