Eagles nest
Sorry I have been a bit absent lately, but it's the time of year where every spare hour is beeing used out there...

Here is an image from a recent project. White-tailed Eagle feeding young in nest. Image was taken in Scandinavia from a very small hide, erected back in winter.

1D MarkIII + 500/4; iso200, f8, 1/1000; full-frame.

Nice picture, showing nice behaviour, What is that green thing on the right of the picture? Surely you must have picture without that green thing?
Best wishes
Frederic

Excellent work. I'm not even going to say anything about the OOF leaves on the right, which I am sure you could do nothing abot and were not there when you set up the hide!

Helge

Great shot showing nest activity. How did you manage the positioning?

Regarding the green stuff, it is as Ian says, some OOF leaves, and they where not there when hide was put up. I believe gardening at a nest-site is totally unacceptable (especially with a shy bird like an eagle), therefore that's just the way it is. Unfortunately it's part of all my images from the nest, in many it's actually in front of the eagle... Maybe some Photoshop-wizardry could remove it... ? :wavey:

Hi Barry regarding the positioning: Normally WT eagle nests are pretty inaccessible for photography, but this nest was a top a broken tree on a hillside. The hide was therefore put on the ground a bit higher up on the same hillside. This way the hide was just above the nest and some 25 metres from it. There was only a very small window beteen the branches to shoot through.

BTW: In the photo it's the adult male feeding a gull to the young.

The birds and setting and interaction are brill, just a shame about the green blob, but accept there's nothing you can do. Great planning though - inspirational

Sometimes it's not about being 'picture-perfect' it's about capturing that moment in nature that reveals its true beauty and essence. The element of natural history is abound in this shot and I'm glad that you captured it and are able to share that moment with us all.

Kind regards,

Brett.

Hello Helge.

What are we looking at? The nest or the green blob?

Only kidding.

Marvelous image. I like blobs if I can get them. They give a sense of being there, trying to get a view of something you dont normally see.
