Swan portrait
Prompted by views on another swan portrait I thought I'd post one of mine from last week. Taken in the same session as the female mallard this guy was busy keeping the Greylags out of his territory.

Canon 350D & Sigma 80-400 @ 315mm, f6.3 for 1/640 @ ISO 400

Think I should have gone for a bit more DoF and I'm not sure whether the band at the top as the reeds merge into sky is too distracting or not.

All comments welcome, thanks

I like this a lot Magnus, the DOF looks fine, and the background at the top isn't distracting to me

Looks good to me Magnus!!

Suits the narrow crop nicely, and i also think the dof is fine :toast: :toast:

a very striking shot, it works very well. Maybe ideally the whole beak would be in focus, but the focus is nicely on the eyes.

Good strong portrait. I agree more depth of field would have been preferable but still fine as is.

Hello Magnus.

I Like it, and the DOF is spot on for me. :wavey:

I like it as is. If the beak could have been sharper whilst retaining the blurred bg then all the better. But looks good to me as presented.

I like it, DoF is good and upper background isn't distracting at all.
