Well, I got a little wet on Monday. I was out doing a survey of ponds in SW Kent and was taking some snap shots of the Damselflies for records. then I saw this Emperor at about knee height. I was cursing as I did not bring my macro lens with me. I was not expecting to be doing a photo-shoot and this one just presented itself.

I made a quick call to Tony Flashman for a few tips (Many thanks) and the resulting image(s) were taken with a Sig 50-500mm.

I had to sit in the water in order to get low enough for this one. I watched it until its wings opened and then eventually it flew off. A really nice encounter I think. Hope you enjoy and I welcome your comments.

Kind regards,

Brett.

Hi Brett,

Fantastic capture! Just goes to show that it's the photographer who makes the image!

an excellent image. I've never seen an Emperor emerge - I've read they normally emerge at night.

Brett

Excellent image and you have demonstrated the versatility of the Sig 50mm-500mm in the right hands.

Colours are fab but its the composition that makes it for me with the juxtaposition of the casing and adult
