Hey,
I'm traveling down to Rolla, Branson, and possible St. Louis this weekend and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on good spots to photograph just about anything located near or anywhere between these places? I was hoping to find some scenery, like streams or waterfalls, or else some wood ducks (just about everything else should be up north by now). However, any suggestions on anything down there is appreciated. Thank you.
Ryan you might try Googling Clifty creek natural bridge. I've never been there but it's on my list. Supposed to be 40' across and with the stream still flowing through it, near Dixon which is just down from Rolla. Missouri isn't blessed with waterfalls like Arkansas and the nearest one that I know of would be Rocky Ford near the Current River. Good Luck.
Edit: Sorry that should have been Rocky Falls not Rocky Ford. 40' high 9 miles south of Eminence MO. You can drive right to it and the lower end makes a good waterslide.
You won't find many waterfalls, but two spots I would recommend that are right along the interstate are Shaw Nature Preserve at Gray Summit, and Lone Elk Park, just outside of St. Louis (a small herd of elk and bison, plus right next door you can get closeup shots of raptors). Also the botanical gardens in the city are pretty nice for macro shots.
Hercules Glades Wilderness Area isn't too far from Branson. There will be hiking involved, but the area boasts some nice glades and a beautiful creek with several small waterfalls (dependent on water level).
