alright chaps, there are a few of these birds floating around the fens in my area at the moment, I saw 3 males and 1 female in 2hours while using the car as a hide.
Can i have some help i am going to wales on tuesday and was going to stop of at gigrin farm, would it be worth it for a few hours in the afternoon.
Hi Lewis,
I would say definitely even if you only want to practice your BiF shots. They are such impressive birds as well and to see them from so close is a privilege. The new hide is well worth the money in my opinion being open fronted and higher.
They feed at 3pm or did when we were there a couple of weeks ago, so you only get a couple of hours anyway.
When I return, I will be saving my shots for the ones that come closest and the ones that are 'performing'. Last time, I ended up with too many 'bird flying past' shots. if you watch closely, they will drop one shoulder as they are about to dive and there are some great shots to be had then. Try and save a card or two until an hour or so has gone past. They will be thinner on the ground by then, most of the tourists will have gone and you will have your eye in. I got more decent shots from my last card than the previous 2 put together. I also found it useful to use my lens at 250 -300 mm for the fastest moving shots as it is easier to keep the bird in the frame. Take every card you have. there were 5 of us in the hide and I think we all ran out pretty much. Enjoy.
Nice MH shot btw. Never seen one myself. Eric
