As those of you know who read the Journal it has been a terrible week for Newton County teenagers. Last week two of our kids were run down by a speeding pickup truck while crossing the street in downtown Harrison. On Wednesday three teenagers from Jasper were hit head-on while riding a fourwheeler near Low Gap (one was killed). And just a few hours ago this morning a dear friend of ours was killed in a head-on crash as she drove from her home in Compton to Jasper to do a fund-raising car wash for her FBLA class. She was a junior at Jasper, and one of the brightest and neatest young people I have ever met. Her dad is the sheriff of Newton County and her mom runs the Elk Info Center in Jasper (and her brother mows our lawn).

During this weekend of increased travel please take extra care as you move about, and also hug your kids/spouse/loved ones an extra time before you hit the road....

Sorry to hear of so many tragic events and personal losses Tim. My heart always sink when I hear it's a young life taken too soon.

I lost my only sister almost 20 years ago to a car wreck. I can relate to the pain and suffering the families are experiencing. My prayers are with them.

My older brother was killed by a speeding preacher when I was the same age as my daughter is now (15) - she is having a tough time coping with the loss of her friend but she is working through it...Their family is sort of the first family of Newton County - it always seems to happen to those who deserve it the least...

My heart felt prayers go out to all those hurt and suffering from such tragedies . I have also lost an older sister from a auto accident when I was 6. It's something that stays with you deeply forever.
Thanks Tim for a much needed reminder of what is really important in life.

Brad
