damselfly and exuvia
a newly emerged Large Red next to its exuvia. A bit of a challenge this one as it was quite breezy at the time.

Canon 400D with Sigma 150mm lens.

f10, 1/160sec, ISO 400, tripod.

Very nice Matt, I might have toned down the lower part of the perch, but that really is minor.

Love these images that show the exuvia as well as the main subject

Been trying for a shot of both together for 2 weeks now without any luck - rather envious of this shot Matt - nice work :toast:

Did you see it emerge - just a bit curious as they usually go upwards

thanks very much for the comments.

Andy, I also thought it a bit odd that it was below the exuvia  I didn't actually see it emerge but there was no other exuvia below it. The reed was actually swaying in the wind and I had to support it with my hand (I could have done with a shorter focal length, my arm is barely long enough for 150mm  ) so maybe it was heading down where it was a bit more stable.

Ah, a summer's breeze - greatest enemy of the macro photographer!

Great shot, Matt, well done on getting it sharp despite the wind!

Superb image and you did very well in the windy circumstances, greta detail throughout and smooth BG.

Great shot, all I have been able to find so far is the exuvia.
