Ptarmigan 'male'
Made a quick dash to Scotland over the week-end with TW to photograph the Wild Boar but managed (only just) to walk up the Cairngorms where we spent 3 hours on the tops photographing Dotterel and Ptarmigan. Although the subject matter was easy the light was not. How often when in Scotland do you pray for it to stop raining - well on this occassion the sun was blazing and the light was quite harsh and as staying on the hill until late was not an option had to make the most of it!

Ah, the old Scottish weather again  . This is lovely. I must go looking for these but suspect I might take the fenicular.

Hi David,

Very nicely handled despite the harsh light! Great exposure and superb feather detail! Lovely capture and a nice one to have on file!

very nice, certainly made the most of the situation, how long are the dotterel up there?

Hi Jack

The Dotterel are a summer migrant and breed there - but as the roles are reversed in this species and the males incubate and rear the young alone, the females sometimes leave or are more difficult to locate!

Ian,

The public cannot exit from the Fenicular onto the tops as this restriction is part of their operating conditions - skiers/climbers that are equipped are an exception during the winter months.

We had this (again) confirmed to us whilst we where there by Glenmore Lodge staff but apparently you may be able to get a one way ticket down soon. Walking is the only way up unless you know somebody that will unlock the doors at the top - I wish it was different as I ain't getting any younger as well :frown:

Nice image - hope the light was a kind to me when I get processing tonight.

Nice one Dave, the harsh light has been handled well, the weather was in reverse I think, Sunday and monday it didn't seem to stop raining down here....

Did you get the Dotterel?

Nice one David. I did Apple Cross after coming off Uist. Had just the same problems with light for two weeks. Not expected at all. :toast:
