Not Sure
Hi, Not sure what this beetle is as it was just about to fly off as I pressed the shutter but quite pleased as not been active for a while.

My guess would be Soldier Beetle Barry - Rhagonycha fulva - but for goodness sake don't take my word for it

The dark head makes me a dubious.

Hi Barrie,

I agree this is probably a species of Soldier beetle. This shot is almost excellent, but the lack of sharpness stops it from being quite as good as it could be.

Cheers,

Dan.

An excellent shot, I agree it is a little soft , but a great position to catch it in.

Cracking shot, Barrie.

Well caught action. Shame it's a little soft, but given the pose this is easily forgiven. Just posted a pic of one of these myself, lots about today. It is a Soldier beetle, a Cantharis species.

Pin sharp around the head and legs and a great moment captured. It's a Soldier alright.
