I shot this late last week after an overnight rain. There were three of these plants growing along the edge of the Towpath Trail in the CVNP. They seem to be columbines, but don't share the deep red color of the columbine that Kendall posted (or the ones that Bernie posted earlier in the spring). Anyone know the ID for sure?
Unfortunately, there is only one plant remaining tonight, as the park service felt the need to mow a swath on either side of the trail.
Not sure about the ID Chuck, but the image is super. I can't decide what I like more: the excellent lighting and flower sharpness (great DOF control), or the silky background!
Looks like Columbine to me, Chuck. I haven't seen very many myself, out in the field, but I believe your ID to be correct. Nice capture with the water drops!
It is always amazing to me how a simple thing can make an otherwise really decent image a really , really good one. That one drop makes this happen! Look out--looks like CB is armed with a 180 macro since I talked with him last! Nice capture.
