Please pardon the violation of posting protocol, but I just rejoined and my confirmation e-mail and member # seems to have vanished into the either of the intertubes. Plus I'm going to be gone for several days without access to the net, so I'd appreciate if a) no one yells at me for posting this here and not in classifieds and b) if a moderator would be so kind as to move this to classifieds.

I'm looking for a good to excellent quality manual focus Nikon 600 f4 ED-IF AI-s. Prefer one with case, hood, etc, but will consider anything that has unmarked glass.

I always suggest people looking at used equipment start by checking KEH. You probably won't get any tremendous bargains there, but at least they are reputable and it will give you a frame of reference. I haven't checked, but you're almost certainly talking about a lens that will cost thousands of dollars, so you'll want to be pretty cautious about the deal.

John,

If you are still looking for a manual focus 600mm Nikkoir, I know where there is a very good one. I rented it 3 or 4 times about 5+ years ago and was amazed by how easy it was to focus. I also used a stacked pair of teleconverters, TC-201 and TC-301, that while sharp did have some vignetting in the corners of 35mm film using an F5. That should not be a problem if you are using a digital with a reduced size censor.

I have been out of town for the last two weeks and missed this port. Let me know if you would like the particulars.

My ardor for the Nikkor 600mm has cooled because I've had pretty good luck shooting my Canon 500mm on my D300. I kludged up an adapter using a couple of extension tubes. It's F4 or go home and I lose infinity focus, but I doubt if I've ever shot the 500 at infinity anyway. It's also a slow focuser manually, but overall I've been pretty happy.

Here's a sample I got not long ago using the 500 and 2.0x.
