Anyone know where (or if) you can get a replacement drop-in (clear) filter for a Canon 200 f1.8 lens? I'm not sure exactly what size it is - whether a 52mm or not. Canon doesn't make this lens any longer so I'm wondering whether or not one can even get a new filter for it. Apparently, the filter is part of the optical design of the lens and when the filter is missing, it affects the lens focusing. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Don, try Samy's Camera at www.samys.com

Someone on another forum said they had the same issue and bought one there. There's a toll free number too, so you can pose your question to an actual human.

I'm told the glass filter is much better than the gelatin one, but I have no direct experience.

Glass filter have two advantages over gelatin filters. They are harder, so they are less prone to scratches. Second, gelatin filters don't get along well with water. For a drop-in filter, this really isn't a problem. Dropping it in the pond would be a problem.
