Does anyone know if Bear Lake is still frozen? I am assuming it is. I am planning on sunrise in the park tomorrow and am planning where I want to set up.

Thanks!

I'm guessing it's only partially frozen by now, but I didn't survey it last weekend when I was up there.

I was there briefly last weekend. There is a lot of snow around the lake yet and it is about 90% frozen, at least as of last weekend.

tell me about it, sunrise is way too early now

A couple weeks ago I had to get up at 2 Am just to make sunrise shots at Brainard Lake and I still missed the sunrise by 15 minutes

Ok, here's what's going on in RMNP.

Bear Lake about 75% frozen, but thawed on the east side enough for reflection. Still quite a bit of packed snow (ice) on the trails to and around Bear Lake.

Sprague Lake completely thawed with no snow. Trail around the lake is (mostly) dry.

Aspens in the lower elevations have leaves (mostly). Up around Bear Lake they are still just budding. Some flowers just starting to bloom in the parks and lower elevations.

Green! It is amazing how green the front range mountains are right now!

I was a little late for first light, but nothing spectacular anyway. Didn't come away with anything award winning, but here are a couple shots.

I don't know if this one works, but I was trying to get the texture of the ice with the detail of Hallet.

I woke this morning to find the Aspens at my house (9400', near the James Peak Wilderness) had finally sprouted!

Like the Bear Lake reflection, David.
