I am looking for some recommendations of your favorite
photogenic lakes in CO that do not require long hikes (under 4 miles RT). Would be great if you can attach a photo or two with your suggestion. Thank you.
Red Rock Lake A mile or so before Brainard Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, This is a great spot in the winter. I really need to try the summer sometime too.
Bear Lake area (Erik's photos) You can't go wrong with the lakes in this area of Rocky Mountain National Park; Bear, Dream, Emerald, Sprague etc.
So, that may be an option for sunsets. I've only seen one there, but if the rest are even half as stunning, its worth trip one evening.
One of my favorites is Bierstadt Lake in RMNP. I also really like Gem Lake, also in RMNP. Both are pretty short (I think within 4-5 miles round trip) but are also a bit of a workout if you aren't stopping every five minutes for photos like we were.

And the best part is that you're talking about a hike of 4-5 minutes, not miles!

Although I haven't been there, the Harrison Flat tarns are high on my list of favorites. About 3 miles to the lakes.
