House Martin
These 'reflection pools' are becoming quite the in thing and it has to be said, they work really well. This one has been built by a friend of mine and has around a dozen or so species visiting regularly. These birds are so fast that I had to prefocus and then take my eye from the viewfinder and try and guess where they'd land - alot more misses than hits! As they were building nests nearby, I did at least get a fair few visits. It's not there yet but another work in progress!

Canon 1dMII, 500mm lens. ISO 200, 5.6/500sec.

i do like this very much, but my issue with it is one i have with many of these type of shots, the tail is so clearly below the level of the pond, it is probably just me but it grates with my eye and idea of set-up nature photography

aside from that great timing and colours

sorry if i have used your shot to express one of my pet peeves

Great photo Peter no doubt about it , but you probably know my views about this low level "in thing " and the problems I have with reflections. As I think Jack has said it seems not quite as we would see things some how. Having said that it doesn't take away anything from the techs, expertise etc. We all have our own styles which makes the hobby so great.
Cheers

Like this a lot. Have seen a lot of these in the media lately. Funny how styles come and go. Its certainly a fresh view on everyday subjects. Its a great shot and I think the timing is spot on with toes still raised for landing. IMHO, less wing blur would make it perfect. Excellent stuff - look forward to the next one. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Hit and miss eh??!! Hmmm.

Like this a great deal - hard to find new angles on House Martins imo, and this does. Ours haven't appeared this year (after 13 years consecutively nesting) so given the bad winter for the species generally I'm not hopeful, and it'll be another potential summer project off the list.

As Mark says its hard to find new angles but you have with this shot, it doesnt detract for me having the tail missing.
