Pied Flycatcher at Pool
Not the easiest black and white job especially in dark conditions.
I liked the water ring on this one. Not many of these in Wyre this year. Been going downhill for a few years now.
D200 Sigma 100-300mm
50th sec
f8 Iso 640
Contrast down in camera
EV - one stop, matrix metering.

Always nice to see birds bathing. Such a break from the norm. A nice setting and well exposed. Maybe a little too central, but I can see the water ring would have been lost if it was composed any other way. Shame to hear they are in decline. :toast:

Its a lovely shot John,

Your experience really shows through, regarding your judgement/anticipation, for gaining consistantly crisp results from these lowish-light/lowish shutter speed situations {with twitchy subjects}.

Although you probably had an extra three-and-a-half stops of iso to play with {compared to the distant past}, your timing is nicely judged!!

Fine result :toast: :toast:

Thanks Alan
I wonder how we managed a few years back!? - I really do.
And then having to wait a week to get the results.Things have certainly got a lot easier.!
