I am fed up with the complicated nature of adding images to my website. It’s the main reason that I haven’t got many images on my website!
So the question is – does anyone know of a program or script where it can easily be incorporate into my website design/style, etc… and still provide an easy facility to add new images as I edit them. i.e. could I add 20 new images in a few minutes.
Hi Paul,
I use the free Web gallery software JAlbum, but I have a very crude website as my brain insists that taking pictures is far more important than trying to sell them, so I now have 5 billion pic's and rising and no money.
Interesting thread, look forward to reading the suggestions.
I had exactly the same problem, so I now use simpleviewer via Lightroom to make my galleries. It only take a few minutes and looks quite smart but the downside is that to add new pics to the gallery you'd need to redo the whole thing in Lightroom each time (but presumably only upload the new pics plus the html and xml bits). But its still much quicker than manually adding pics plus captions.
I used to be a web designer so always made my own but updating the galleries was a real pain. Now I base my galleries on a Lightroom template which can be uploaded direct to my webserver from Lightroom - without the need for a separate FTP or web design software.
The templates are basic, but attractive and easy to use. My gallery is based on one that has been incorporated into a template design. I have to make a few tweaks but essentially it is the quickest way for me to get the look I want, with content I want, the way I want it - Not that straight forward really.
The biggest drawback with the Lightroom and Photoshop gallery templates is that they are one dimension, in that you can only upload a page of thumbnails - you cannot create a navigation that can link to multiple pages.
Have you tried http://www.clikpic.com? My friend, Jerry Sutton, has his site on there and it works for him very well. You can add and update galleries and have a gallery index and navigation to quickly link to and from other galleries. You might not have a site that is EXACTLY how you want it, but it will be attractive, functional, practical, and do the job.
I use Coppermine.
Not the most elegant, but good for adding large volumes of shots quickly and I've got a mod on it so that viewers can buy shots in a variety of sizes. It has the added plus, for me, of being almost idiot proof to set up and run.
I do like the look of Tim's website made with JAlbum
Paul, have you tried iWeb? Assuming you're using a mac. I've been fiddling with it past week and it seems straight forward enough. Pretty much everything can be drag+dropped.
My current flash site isn't very easy to update, so will be replacing it very soon - probably one made with iWeb.
Good luck.
