I just reread your article, Richard. I think you did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. (I tried to post this in the same thread as your announcement about the new articles, but for whatever reason I couldn't post there; my problem, not the website's)
Bret Edge had me exactly follow the steps you describe when he brought me to the Green River Overlook in Canyonlands. My reaction to this stunning vista was, "Whoa!" and I immediately reached for my camera.
Bret stopped me and asked me to verbalize exactly what was making me go, "Whoa." Well, that simple question flipped me from right to left brain (see, now you've made me dangerous), made me realize it was the gnarled, bare tree branches, and the branches became the focal point of my composition. The photo's above.
Maybe Bret stayed at the same hotel.
So, Richard, thanks for sending my right siding-left siding brain back to the left as far as consciously cataloging a right side experience for future use.
Great article! I have been in a creative rut for a while but still trying to absorb new ideas and keep up with everyone else, this definitely helps and is a must read for everyone.

I think I'll go play Pong now.
Perfect example and the image you posted reflects that. Glad you enjoyed the article!
