It is the time of the year where weather is unpredictable, and spring storms are rolling across the Rocky Mountain region.

This month’s theme is “Dramatic Skies” to showcase storms, lightning, clouds, and amazing sky phenomena.

Enjoy!

OK,

Rene - are you sure we shouldn't have just renamed this - Todd's Topic?

I'll kick this one off with a shot I took a few years back that I have showed once before. I captured this shot of Shiprock, NM on my Bronica 6x4.5 on Velvia and would love to get it on 4x5 but the conditions have not happened again for me.

Sunset over Ridgway, August 2007

4x5, 120mm I think.

Great shots so far guys!

I'll start with one from Guanella Pass and Mt. Bierstadt, on the night of the best sunset I've seen! Here is how it started, and here is how it ended! Amazing! (No color manipulation done, I promise!)

Fred,

That shot looks like the martians are coming. Wonderful!

How about a b & w for variety. I guess I really don't need to say this is the Great Sand Dunes.

This should be any awesome thread. Already is.

Richie, your image is the bomb. Literally! That is a stunning comp.

Jesse's recent posts reminded me of this shot from just about this time last year. Taken on the west summit of Beartooth Pass

Taken last summer at Muley Point, overlooking the San Juan River canyon and Monument Valley.

All of these are just amazing. I will have to make sure to keep checking back to see all the new posts.

Typical summer afternoon storm on Trail Ridge Road - RMNP

I was hoping for the sun to break trough below the clouds, but the horizon closed, and 2 inches of hail covered the road in the next 10 minutes - just made it to the car in time.

John - that is a stunner! WOW!

John - that shot is downright primordial! Incredible!

Thanks, guys. That means a lot coming from y'all.
This image was 99% pure luck.

What a great theme and what awesome images!
Admittedly, 9 times out of 10 I prefer to keep the sky out of my frame, but every now and then Mother Nature puts on a show that would be downright sinful not to photograph.

John,

If it were mine that image would have a place of honor on my walls. Wonderful!

John M, that lightning shot just blew me away.

This is one I posted on E,S&S awhile back. From Arches just over a year ago.

Wow! Incredible stuff everyone! I'll throw a couple more up too. This one is from the top of Snowy Range Pass, west of Laramie, Wyoming. I wasn't expecting much this particular morning, as it had rained all night, and the winds were blowing at least 30 mph. Luckily I stuck around, and was able to see about one minute of sun before it disappeared into the clouds again! Magical morning for sure.

One more, this from the trail to Dream Lake in RMNP. I had planned on Dream Lake for sunrise, but didn't quite make it. The winds were howling, as is quite evident in this image looking at the summit of Longs Peak.

Wow, lots of drama this month! Every one a unique and amazing capture. This one is a quick grab from a couple of days ago in Trinidad as a thunder/hail storm was breaking up.

I worked very hard and travelled far to get to this point in the wilderness on my front porch. This was the pleasant view after a passing afternoon thunderstorm. Very nice images everyone!

Great images. Here is a different look. Salt Lake sunset.
