Soon after this shot, the sun dropped behind the clouds at the horizon. While it seemed my light was done for the night, at least I was smart enough to wait it out anyway. Fortunately, I was rewarded for my patience. Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to have a composition ready to go should Twilight Peak light up with the sun's last rays. I was too distracted listening to the coyotes serenading me at the time. So do the protruding stumps on the bottom left only serve to distract? Just curious to what people think.
Guy, These are great! Way to stick it out. I really like the way you included the lit foreground in the 1st one. Reading your post I assume the first one was taken in the late afternoon. Is that correct? Great reflections! Yes, I think the stumps in the 2nd one are a bit distracting and seems to take some away from the great lake reflection.
The first shot is awesome, really nice colours and composition!. The sunset version is also very nice, but I also feel the stumps do distract slightly. The exposure in the sunset image is very well handled!.
That first shot is sweet! Love the colors and the sunlit foreground. Also I like how the peaks are dim compared to the bright mid-ground ridge. The second shot is nice, but lacks the punch of the first.
The first seems too busy; the lily pads just seem like junk floating on the water and the foreground just isn't that compelling. The second has great color, the lake seems more tranquil, the reflection isn't making the mid-ground too complex, the aspen 'spring' green is better and the lily pads look like they are lily pads.

Just clone out the stumps and it's ready to go.
