Swan Lake Flat
An image from a stormy afternoon in Yellowstone - in Swan Lake Flat. I could see the snow/ice reflection from the main road across the meadow, so I stopped. A moment of subtle beauty.

Shooting this scene resulted in the most pronounced case "tripod curiosity" I've ever encountered. Carload after carload of tourists continually stopped to walk over and see what I was shooting - hoping to see some exciting mammal. Some even got irritated when I told them I was shooting the boring river.

Comments welcome.

I like the sepia tone treatment here Jesse. I'm thinking if you cropped out some of the clouds at the top so this was more of a panoramic format, it would look great too.
There are some really nice views of Electric Peak from Swan Lake Flat. Be sure to come back when the flowers finally bloom there.

Oddly enough in my experience people never see clouds even when they are incredible. Great work there Mr Speer.

I really like this shot a lot, I love the toning and the combination of the clouds and the reflection of the snow make it a winner. Just wish I could see it a little bigger, I know there are more details than I can see at this size.

Wow! I really love this image. I think the sepia tone is perfect here.

That snowbank and reflection are awesome and really capture my attention. I like the "tripod curiosity" anecdote. I have had similar experiences and when I told them what I was shooting their response was a deadpan and uninspired, "Oh....".

Totally borrrrrring. Where's the bear chasing the wolf eating the elk?

Nice shot Jesse.

Nice shot, Jesse. I love the reflection. When I went to Yellowstone last year, the "tripod curiosity" was constantly out of control.

I think the tone lends drama to the clouds and overall scene. I like the detail in the snow bank too. Very nice! You're on a roll!

Dramatic and moody. I like it!

"Get back in the car kids. Nothin' to see here....."

This is nice Jesse. The clouds are great but it's the snow/ice reflection that I really like.

Man, I'm really starting to hate you.

Well, it's understandable that people were pissed when you made them stop for this !!

Wonderful image. The toning works well.

Jesse, Great image! Just returned after three weeks in Teton/Yellowstone area. Lots of snow and weather. Experienced all 4 seasons in a day. Great bear year! Did you get to shoot the kill over at Canyon?
