Since I have tomorrow off, I was debating rising really early and driving up to Red Rock Lake or Brainard Lake for sunrise. Maybe I'll get some cool clouds or some nice fresh snow.

Has anyone been up around there lately? Is the road open yet? How about thaw on the lakes? Am I going to need snow shoes to get to Red Rock Lake? Thanks!

Not sure about current conditions, but the road is NOT open. When I talked to rangers last week, their estimate was somewhere around the middle of June.

Does anyone know if the road is plowed up to the fee station? Or is it closed right off 72?

The road is usually open to somewhere near the fee station; there are residences some distance up the road.

I was up there the weekend before last and the road was gated-off just past the trailhead to Red Rock Lake. There was a sign posted that said that the road would open June 8 - but of course that might have changed given the weather up there.

I don't think the few inches of snow we just got is going to change much. It wasn't even sticking on the roads at 9500'. So I'd count on it opening this weekend.
