Does anyone know how Maroon Bells is these days? I have a few days off in a couple of weeks and was thinking about going there since I've never been. I was also thinking about hitting Great Sand Dunes as well.
I won't be able to do too much hiking as I'll have my 3 month old Bernese puppy with me. Basically, the wife said if you're going you taking your boy with you. So this is going to be more of a road side scouting trip.
I'm up for other area as well since I haven't visited much of the state. Any other suggestions?
While I'm at it, any suggestion for pet friendly lodging? I found the Great Sand Dunes lodge allow pets so I'm set there.

In regard to pet friendly lodging, Super 8 motels allow dogs, if I'm not camping I usually try to find one of those. It is getting more common to find places that will allow them.
The Sand Dunes does allow you to take dogs out into the dunes, check at the visitors center about the allowable area as it is not correctly shown on their website, at least as of a month ago.
Cars are not allowed into the Bells area after 9am beginning June 14th this year; after 9am, you must take a shuttle from Aspen Highlands (or Aspen proper). Dogs are allowed on the shuttle. Dogs are allowed on-leash but are strictly forbidden from the lakes. Be aware that there may be goslings along the lakeside trail and a dog could provoke a hostile reaction from the geese.
Scott ~ Thanks! Completely forgot about Super 8. Will indeed check them out.
Les ~ Yeah, my puppy is currently afraid of water deeper than his feet so that should be an issue. Do you know how much snow is still left up there. I tried finding some active webcams but didn't have any luck.
Just returned from a weekend in Aspen...Went to the Bells on Friday. Still lots of fresh snow on the peaks (got some 2 out of 3 mornings I was there!). The lake is completely clear, trees around are budding now. Beautiful spring greens this coming week (and now). Mostly summer conditions at the lake. As you go up, I have no doubt you'll hit snow on the trail, but it depends on how high you go. Might run into a bit at Crater Lake...I didn't get up there, so that's just a guess.
Weather was cool but nice this past weekend. Windy too.
