Seal Solitude: Enviro
It's not that often this happens but I had to get a 617 scanned at 3000dpi for a project so I may as well post it. The final image size of 150M pixels (21360*7068 pixels) makes the 1DS3's 22M pixels look very small . Printing at 300dpi yeilds a 72' by 24' print of gallery quality; the down side is the memory footprint of the Tiff 16bit is 850M on my hard drive and PS3 really really struggles :frown:.

This was taken at Donna Nook last year about 40 minutes before sunrise on a landscape Fotoman 617 or a Horseman SW617 camera (I am not sure which as I had a Horseman out on trial at some point during that winter)

The beach is lonely at that time, no hordes of people (in this instance I think it was just Dave Kjaer and me) and the light can be superb. The white blob in the top of the picture is the cresent moon which is clearly a cresent in the large image.

A landscape of the seals environment.

90mm/617 camera/Tpod (a 90mm lens on a 617 is about a 18mm lens on a 35mm)
30second @ F8 on 50 ASA Velvia
As scanned, just reduced

Slightly larger 1200px image Here

Stunning... I can well believe this to be a fantastic image at it's larger size. What a great moment in time, very well done indeed.

Staggering - good to see the manual skills are still there after all this digital development. I still think it is very hard to beat a 617, especially one of this quality. Inspired my Thomas Mangellson's large format book, I'm seriously considering hiring one for my return trip to the Masai Mara. :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast:

Is it a photo, is it a painting? What the ..... is it. Well I tell you what it is. It's absolutely amazing.
One of the best landscape scenes I ever saw. I would really like to see it hanging on my wall.
