The water in the Gorge is higher than I have ever seen it in June. Falls are just pouring over the cliffs and surprisingly enough creating some new and different scenes if you are willing to get wet. (Elowah for example was just crazy this evening)
This shot is from below bridal veil. The falls themselves are so full and so wide right now that I had very little success shooting them directly. It forced me to look for a more unorthodox scene. A few blown highlights in the falls themselves but considering how much water is coming down I can't complain too much. C&C greatly appreciated!
Ditto Bryan's comments - great comp. Personally, the strongest quality of the image is the fresh perspective. Plenty of depth created by the greens both near and far, and the water running out of the LRC provides more depth as well as a lot of visual interest. Colors are great, too. If you can tone down the falls as Bryan suggested, that'll ratchet it up a notch. Really nice work.
In my shots I undexposed the foreground for the falls. But even then the fall highlights were still a bit blown. So I made mutiple exposures from the single raw image for the blend in PS.
I may work the moss a bit more to pull out the highlights in my blends after seeing yours. The challenge in performing blends for me is to make an image which closest represents what the eye saw without going overboard. For example if the foreground was shaded it should be visible but not the same brightness as the background (the falls in this case).
Thanks all for the great comments. I didn't spend a whole lot of time in the digi-darkroom on this one so I think there is some room for improvement with selective adjustments to the falls.
Derek - great minds think alike . I have a couple horizontal similar to yours as well. Its a really cool POV in that your eye sweeps across the entire frame. This was certainly a challenging scene due to depth of field issues. Its a tough area with canopy over the stream and clearing over the falls themselves. Waterfall blends are difficult but when done well look great.
Bryan,
The other have covered the technical stuff that I don't know much about but I will say this really appeals to me. I like it especially because of the different perspective and the color of the greens near the waterfall..
Your FG is as good as it gets, Bryan. With the wide dynamic range here this subject is a good candidate for a two or multi exposure blend. I've never been to the Gorge but those greens sure look good to me.

I really like this shot and how you pulled out the color of the moss.
The funny part is I was just there and ran into the same problem shooting the falls. I had the blend the image during post processing to handle the fall highlights. Here is one example:

And here is a horizontal of the same composition as yours. I guess we were thinking alike
