I would have to say that this location was one of my favorite waterfall areas of our trip. There are many compositional opportunites here. The Gorge of course was awesome as well.
I really look forward to shooting here again on my next visit out there. I'll need to try some new tricks to keep my lens dry. Many photos from behind the falls were unusable due to the volume of water raining on my lens.
Hi, Derek,
I looked at your first set of photos. You really have some gorgeous, classic shots in there of Portland's Japanese Garden and the western part of the Columbia Gorge. You did the Great PNW proud.
Next time you come, consider spending some time in our beautiful State of WA, too. The old growth rainforests and wild ocean beaches will blow your sox off! There's enough to see out here to keep you coming for a lot of vacations yet! So glad you had such a great time.
I tell my friends that I feel like I went to the photographer's buffet and gorged myself.
There was just so much to see and do in the PNW it could keep a person occupied for a lifetime. One of the hardest parts was eliminating places to go from 'this' trip. Our family was pretty tired by the end it, but we all really enjoyed the trip.
This trip was focused more on the coast since we don't get to see very often living in CO.
Nice collection of images, Derek. Glad to hear you had a great time on your visit. Keeping the lens dry should be much easier when the water flow subsides. The wet winter and (still) wet spring have resulted in extremely high flows.
Thanks guys. I felt like a real novice out there compared to some of the awesome shots I see posted here by the 'locals.' It was very surreal for me as a first time visitor to the PNW. The 'Green' colors were so vibrant I was blown away.
After looking at other people's work here I am thinking I probably underexposed/undersaturated most of my shots. I tend to want to keep things looking real. But that is the problem with the Gorge and Silver Falls area right now - it is Unreal!!!
Derek...great job!!! I really them ...all of them!!! They are some real looking, original shots.... as long as this is what you saw then don't mind the various over saturated versions you have seen! The forst one really keep you on the seat and make you say WOW!! Others are beautiful as well... great job as usual...regards, Rajeev

Glad you had a good trip. I like the last post the best. Great shot. I wonder what a crop (just a tad) from the bottom would look like.
