Hi all
Well I've gone through my Collins Complete British Insects and I can't ID this with any certainty, so I thought I'd throw it open to you guys.
Taken in the Norfolk Broads, on the bank of a stream, and between three and four inches in length.
Over to you.
Thanks in advance
Simon

Hi Simon
I think it is a Drinker Moth Catapillar (Philudoria potatoria)

Hi Simon
As Gary says, it's a Drinker (so called because at the larval stage, they can be seen 'drinking' drops of water) and a fine photo of one too
