Red tailed hawk
I was looking out my front window one day last week and saw this hawk light in a dead apple tree in my neighbor's back yard. It had just nabbed another bird for lunch - a young robin, I think. I got a total of about sixty shots of it while it ate it's kill and allowed me to get within thirty feet or so before leaving with its lunch.

Very nice action shot, Louis. Good capture. She's definitely giving you the big stare. I think I would crop a lot of the white sky above her head to focus more on your subject. Also, this is most likely a Cooper's Hawk. Definitely not a Red-tail.

Nice catch, Louis. Love the stare the hawk is giving you, being well aware of your presence. I agree with Chuck...you could easily crop quite a bit from the top.

Thanks, Chuck. I definitely need to get a good book on hawk ID. I'll try the cropping you and Toni suggest. My ID isn't good yet but my photos have improved (I think) thanks to the suggestions I get here.

Nice find. I agree this is a Cooper's Hawk. I think a tighter crop, closer to square, would work for this photo.

A very effective image given that the hawk is staring directly at the camera!
