When does a photo become worthy of hanging on the wall? When does it not? I was never entirely sure. Or is it simply all in the eye of the beholder? This is inspired from my "The Meadow" post in ESS.
Hey Will, I hang a photo when it is one that I like and am proud of creating. I feel that if the shot is one you want to view on a regular basis and draw inspiration, meaning, emotion, or any type of joy from, then you should hang it. If someone else doesn't like the shot - let them create one better and then "consider" replacing your own shot.
My first question back would be: your wall, or someone else's? For hanging on your own wall, your own house, that's certainly a question for you to answer. If you like, love it, or as Merle said - if it draws inspiration, meaning, emotion, etc.,, then it's worthy of hanging. And even if it's not your wall - as you say, it's in the eye of the beholder.
I have a modest home and I have 20, 16x20's hanging on my walls and a number of smaller, framed prints as well. To be perfectly honest, none of these were printed just to hang on my own wall. They were printed for sale, for county fair entries, weekend art fairs, etc.... I guess you could say what is hanging in my house are leftovers.... :-)
If you like it - and it means something to you - print it, hang it and be proud of it.
Will, for me there are two answers. First, if I have a shot I'm proud of and it fits with a theme in one of the rooms in our house I'll frame it and hang it myself to enjoy. And second, I'll frame an image that I believe will sell for art fairs and exhibit display and it becomes "worthy" when someone says it is with their purchase.
I'm going to have to work on the latter because my framed inventory seems to keep getting bigger!

Just my humble opinion.....
