Dual Jumpers
I photographed the downhill bikers again this weekend, I think my technique improved although I'm not 100% happy with my results. I might be bumping up against the limitations of my D2x and single flash.

This is a single photo, they timed it perfectly.

Perfect timing, although they're somewhat lost in the background.

I think I need a whole bank of light to illuminate the riders to make them stand out against the background. It was a real hard day to shoot in the forest given the bright blue sky and all. I got some nice, sharper closer up shots though.

No one got hurt this weekend.

Are you practicing for the Gorge Games this weekend Mark?

I hadn't even thought of that, David. These are just the neighbor kids and I thought it would be fun to try to get photographs of them. I've been printing a photo for each of them that they are pretty jazzed to receive.

Pretty cool action shot, Mark. I agree that some additional lighting would help separate the bikers from the background. Maybe a couple of strobes aimed above each jump; downside would be flash-blinding the poor kids before their landing...

Strobes and a portable power supply, eh?

Mark, if you like this sort of stuff and want practice, show up here with me this Aug.

I just might do that, Jerry.

Cool capture Mark. I am sure they are thrilled to have a photo of this, something they will enjoy for many years. I agree a couple off camera strobs would help with the FG lighting here since it's shaded pretty well. Nice action shot nonetheless though.
